Cast in a single piece "Upper Management" is an allegorical representation of the lot of creative and ambitious female middle managers is a traditional corporate structure characterized by inertia and paranoia. A smoothly finished, slender female is forced to her hands and knees as the huge, lumpy, male boss sits astride her. One of his hands pushes her shoulder down as the other grasps her neck pulling her head back in a strangle hold. Rodin strongly influenced this sculpture. The smooth elegance of the figures in his "The Kiss" informed my female; while his "Bust of Balzac," in which a powerful head emerges from what at first seems to be huge lumps of clay in elemental, unformed chaos, influenced my male figure. While the sculpture is primarily turquoise, the female is filled with a rosy inner glow. 7 x 4.5 x 5 in., signed. The piece was shot in a mirror.
